Summer Boat Charters
and Field Courses

Whether it's a day trip to study a wildflower meadow and an ancient forest on Hope Island, snorkeling the shallows of Blakley Rock, or exploring the geological wonders of the Northwest, join us this summer for the adventure of a lifetime in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and its inland waterways. Trips include, but are not limited to:

Hope Island Botany

Take a weekend spring venture to Hope Island (just inside of Deception Pass) to experience an explosion of wildflowers in the south meadow. Species encountered include: white fawn lily, chocolate lily, sea pink, field chickweed, camas, and death camas. If you time it just right, you might also catch fairy slipper orchids on the trail through the ancient forest to the meadow.
Trip length: 3-4 hours
Trip fee: $30 per person.

Deception Pass Botany

Fidalgo Ophiolite Sequence
Explore the strange geologic history of the Fidalgo Ophiolite Sequence (near the Deception Pass area), a slice of the ocean’s crust that was tossed-up onto the continent. Some of the rocks found in this region can be seen in only two or three locations on the entire planet!
We will meet in the parking lot at Larabee State Park.
Flat group rate: $100.00.

Mount St Helens
Join us at Mt. St. Helens for an explosive field course on volcanology. We will visit Norway Pass to witness the effects of the blast zone, Meta Lake to see how safety pockets were produced by ridges and snow pack, Windy Ridge to see the volcanic crater and avalanche debris, and Ape Cave and The Trail of Two Forests to explore past eruptions of the mountain.
Flat group rate: $350.00.

Snorkeling Blakley Rock

Columbia Plateau
Venture across the Columbia Plateau in search of evidence of an ancient fissure eruption and catastrophic glacially-induced floods. Learn to identify all of the major flows in the Yakima Basalt Group, and even explore an open-pit diatomite mine!
Flat group rate: $150.00
